Some time ago, we bought another property just a few miles from where we currently live. The idea was to do a “quick” facelift and then Airbnb it. That was two years ago. Have you seen the movie the Money Pit with Tom Hanks and Shelley Long? Well, we can relate. I have always said that we should have our own reality show with the starring role going to my brother Lon. Everyone would love uncle Lonny. Have you seen Duck Dynasty? Anyway, I can also guarantee that Hillside Hideaway would have been its own redneck saga.
This home is a modular from the 70’s and when you think of 70’s, it was all of that; with flat wood paneling throughout, linoleum, carpet and a less than funcional kitchen and bathrooms. The aesthetics of all of that was less than appealing. We knew that and figured a little paint and some cabinet upgrades would take care of all of that….
So, let’s go back to the movie the Money Pit, and instead of the Money Pit, we will call this reality movie, Hillside Hell. And instead of a movie, which has a finite timeline, we will make this a series because we are Anderson’s and we always need more time related to inherited procrastination genes.
Also, because we always like to take the long route, this series will have an interim title, known as Hillside Pergutory. Of course, the main actor’s from the Money Pit, Tom and Shelley will be replaced with new, unknown but up-and-coming reality stars, Chad and Carla. Also, in this series, the banker will be replaced by Wallet Bruce.
Season 1, Episode 1
To say that I was overwhelmed then is almost hilarious because we did not realize just HOW much would have to be done to make this house a home, especially with the idea that we were going to Airbnb it.
Season 1, Episode 2
Somewhere in the midst of all this, I lost my phone which had a ton of pics, and apparently, they did not get saved to “the cloud”. If I had those you would have seen that the other half of the lower level was all utility and a very small one-car garage. Yes, when I see these I realize we needed our heads examined for buying this “quick little fixer upper”. Regardless, we did and we set about refurbishing it.
Stay tuned for Season 2, Episode 1.
In this episode, you will see phase 1 of what would become several phases of what has been the l o n g e s t remodel in the history of remodeling.
All episodes are under the @copyright of the Hillside House Stark-Raving-Mad series.
We imagine that Magnolia Television will be clamoring for collaboration with us but we tend to like to work with limited funds, limited experience, and excessive amounts of stress.
P.S. Also, we will feature my sister Dawn Moon’s home in our featured pic area (@dawnmoonhome on insta) because that is the overall feel we would like this place to have. Believe me, knowing that it was possible by watching their own home reno was the O N L Y thing that got us to the end of this project!
