KATE CHIPINSKI. Have you heard of her? If you haven’t then you have clearly been living under the proverbial ROCK!
I have been following Kate for some time now, and I’m in love….with her home!
You can easily find her @katechipinski on Instagram.
Her style? If I had to label her style I would say it’s an eclectic meets mid-century modern minimalism, but with more Kate. It’s fabulous! Her furniture choices and accent pieces are contemporary which add dimension and interesting features that play to her minimal style.
She emphasizes the use of classic staples: white walls, a few dark accent walls, wood tones and a spectacular knack for reusing and refurbishing what was already there. Kate has mixed and matched various styles as she has worked to marry old and new, with beautiful results. Her home is inviting with a welcoming mix of contrasting colors and layered textures. Kate also worked to incorporate functionality into a lot of her renovations: a couple of my favorites, the “secret room” and the girls kitchen play area.
Call it my age or the idea that I want to leave the world a better place but eco-friendly sustainability is a BIG deal to me. If it can be done beautifully, even better! And I think that is why I am so drawn to Kate’s style! She brings to the design table, an uncanny ability to take what is existing and then upgrade, repurpose and reuse it, smashingly! Do you know that in our materialistic quest to “stay ahead of the Jones'” that only 1% of items that we think we “need” are still actually used 6 months later? That’s a staggering percentage when you consider that means we waste 99% of what we buy. You can find other interesting facts regarding ‘waste not, want not’ on The Story of Stuff.
But back to Kate and her beautiful abode. Though I would love to post every picture from her INSTA account here, I cannot (not enough room otherwise I would!). So, I will just add some of my favorites. IF this doesn’t get you in the creative DIY bug, I don’t know what will?!
I absolutely adore how she layers natural elements throughout her space. I also admire that she makes many of the items that she decorates with from leather cabinet pulls to her own art.

This is their lower level entertaining area and the “secret room” that they “found” behind another wall. What did they do with the space? They didn’t waste it and took the opportunity to make it a wine cellar! Again, the earthy color palette mixed with classic materials is understated, elegant and homey all at once.
You will notice that throughout her Instagram feed Kate has positive messages that she changes out on her word board. In a world that seems so negative currently, this is a sweetness we need!

The transformation is amazing while using most of what was already there.
I LOVE how how changing out the art above her bed, or by simply switching out throw pillows or decor she instantly transforms a space!
